Bogus Callers Local police are renewing their appeal for vigilence and greater caution from home owners when dealing with unexpected callers. They state that anyone who receives an unexpected call, and is asked to leave their home for any reason, should close and lock the door and should contact the police straight away. If you have a peephole or door security chain, use it. Always ask for ID. These individuals will sometimes offer a brief glimpse of an identity card in the hope that this will suffice. Don't be fooled. Ask to see the card properly. If it's in a cardholder, ask that they remove it so that you can examine it closely. And always check that the photograph matches the person on the doorstep. If you are concerned a caller may not be genuine, the non-emergency police number is 0845 600 8000 and in an emergency dial 999 The Quick Check Freephone number 0800 0132290 is also available for householders to verify a callers details. Never take a chance by letting a stranger into your home. Visit our for more information.
